Terms of Service
Draft for legal review, not in effect
This text describes how SocialOrbit currently works. It has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer, is not legal advice, and may change before it becomes our final policy.
1. About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and SocialOrbit (“SocialOrbit”, “we”) for using the SocialOrbit app and website. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian should read these terms with you.
2. Who can use SocialOrbit
- SocialOrbit is made for students in grades 5 to 8 and the adults who support them.
- Children under 13 may only have an account after a parent or guardian gives verifiable consent. The parent agrees to these terms for the child and is responsible for the child's use.
- Teens 13 to 17 may create their own account with permission from a parent or guardian.
- Parent accounts are for adults 18 or older.
3. Your account
Give accurate information, including your birthday on the age screen, and keep your password private. Tell us if you think someone else is using your account. Parents manage their children's logins from the parent dashboard.
4. What SocialOrbit is, and isn't
- SocialOrbit is a practice tool for everyday social skills. It is not therapy, medical care, a diagnosis, or a replacement for help from a doctor, therapist, teacher or counselor.
- AI practice characters can say things that are wrong, odd or unhelpful. Treat their replies as practice, not advice.
- SocialOrbit is not for emergencies. If you or someone else might be in danger, tell a trusted adult right away. In the US, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or call 911. Outside the US, call your local emergency number.
5. Using SocialOrbit kindly and safely
You agree not to:
- share other people's personal information, or your own contact details, in chats or reviews;
- post anything hurtful, hateful, sexual, violent or illegal, or try to make the AI produce it;
- try to get around the age screen, parental consent or other safety features, or use someone else's account;
- try to break, overload or reverse-engineer the service, or collect data from it.
6. Your content
You keep ownership of what you write. You give us permission to process it to run the features you use (for example, sending chat text to our AI provider to get a reply), and, for public reviews by users 13 and older, to show it on SocialOrbit. You can delete your reviews and your account at any time.
7. Our content
Lessons, characters, artwork (including Orbi), sounds and software belong to SocialOrbit or its licensors. You may use them for personal, non-commercial learning, and teachers may use them with their own students. Please don't copy, sell or republish them elsewhere without asking us.
8. Ending your use
You can stop using SocialOrbit and delete your account at any time. Parents can withdraw consent at any time, which deletes the child's account. We may suspend accounts that break these terms or put others at risk, and we'll explain why when we can.
9. Changes to SocialOrbit and these terms
We may change features or these terms. If a change is significant, we'll tell you (and parents of children's accounts) before it applies.
10. Disclaimers and limits
SocialOrbit is provided “as is” and “as available”. We work hard to keep it running and accurate, but we can't promise it will always be available, error-free, or right for every situation. To the extent the law allows, we aren't responsible for indirect losses that come from using it. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived.
11. Disputes and governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. If you have a problem with SocialOrbit, please email us first so we can try to fix it. If we can't, disputes will be handled in the state or federal courts located in California, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring them somewhere else.
